Numerical Investigation on the Electroslag Remelting of High Carbon Martensitic Stainless Steels

Control of solidification structure and segregation is crucial to improve the service performance high carbon martensitic stainless steels. Design electroslag remelting (ESR) process based on essential parameters melting rate, filling ratio, slag thickness a precondition achieve optimal control However, there still lack coupled works giving deep insight into overall effect expected control. With this background, 2D numerical model was established probe parameters. The results showed that: (1) increase rate from 90 kg/h 180 kg/h, molten metal pool depth increased by about 4 cm. Meanwhile, center LST, PDAS, SDAS 450 s, 100 μm, 12 μm. index C Cr 0.15 0.09. (2) As ratio 0.16 0.43, decreased 4.5 cm, LST received slight 41 s less than 5 but PDAS had little change. an 0.03, demonstrated tiny changes. (3) 0.08 0.14 m, presented first 1 cm then decrease. 148 30 μm slightly. changes similar tendency that are extremely small. (4) A low 120 0.23–0.33, 0.08–0.10 m were appropriate obtain good for ESR steels in study.
